The Future Leaders program is a program offered by the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Village and Community Councils (TTAVCC) directly connected to its Youth Arm targeting young people in the communities served by the TTAVCC.
The program includes a range of projects designed to develop the skills and abilities of the participants.
They work with local groups, schools and universities to provide educational opportunities for participants to support its core goals. They also partner with businesses and non-profit organizations to provide funding, resources, and expertise.
Target Demographics:
The Future Leaders program specifically targets young people in the communities served by the TTAVCC between the ages of 5-21 years old, with a special focus on those who have demonstrated leadership potential and a commitment to community service.
Projects Goals:
Participants work on community development initiatives, such as organizing events or implementing projects to improve local infrastructure. They also participate in camps, workshops, leadership training and mentoring programs, where they would learn from experienced community leaders and develop their own leadership skills.

Insight:
Originally started as a reading camp by Majella Simon (Secretary [2019] – Radix Village Council | Nariva/Mayaro Branch) for her kindergarten students, the Future Leaders Summer Camp expanded it’s activities when a parent brought her son, who had an injured arm, to practice writing as a form of therapy. The camp provides an inter-council network where students can receive exposure to other communities, while learning about the nature and the environment.
